As a recent graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design I chose to turn my focus from illustration to painting as a fine art. The passion I have retained for painting is partially derived from my fascination with altering the veracity of the canvas. By the time one of my paintings has fully materialized I am able to step back while coming to the realization that the painting itself was there all along, I merely brushed away the layer of white that was acting as a curtain that, which after weeks of waiting, had finally been drawn.
This Cloud Series reflects my vision and desire to share the often overlooked spectacular beauty of our ever-present skies. At the same time while in the pursuit of this amazing aesthetic, I acknowledge the potential skies hold to reflect the same emotion and turmoil, hope and despair, light and dark that is found in our everyday existence on terra firma. My work maintains a representational appearance blended with non-traditional spatial relationships. I add a focused sensitivity to color with the goal of providing the viewer with a chance to appreciate that which is too often fleeting.
Driving through an afternoon, through dusk and the blackness of night and into the light of dawn gives you a new admiration for the infinity, an ever changing expanse that encompasses our everyday. I hope my work provides a glimpse and appreciation for the spectacle that exists in our everyday lives; as well as a pause in time to enjoy it.
